Conditional inference in parametric models
This paper presents a new approach to conditional inference, based on the simulation of samples conditioned by a statistics of the data. Also an explicit expression for the approximation of the conditional likelihood of long runs of the sample given the observed statistics is provided. It is shown that when the conditioning statistics is sufficient for a given parameter, the approximating densi...
متن کاملExponential Families for Conditional Random Fields
In this paper we define conditional random fields in reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and show connections to Gaussian Process classification. More specifically, we prove decomposition results for undirected graphical models and we give constructions for kernels. Finally we present efficient means of solving the optimization problem using reduced rank decompositions and we show how stationarit...
متن کاملConditional versus Unconditional Procedures for Sample-free Item Analysis
Two procedures for Rasch, sample-free, item calibration are reviewed and compared for accuracy. Andersen's (1972) theoretically' ideal "conditional" procedure is impractical for calibrating more than 10 or 15 items. A simplified alternative procedure for conditional estimation practical for 20 or 30 items which produces equivalent estimates is developed. When more than 30 items are analyzed rec...
متن کاملBayesian inference and the parametric bootstrap.
The parametric bootstrap can be used for the efficient computation of Bayes posterior distributions. Importance sampling formulas take on an easy form relating to the deviance in exponential families, and are particularly simple starting from Jeffreys invariant prior. Because of the i.i.d. nature of bootstrap sampling, familiar formulas describe the computational accuracy of the Bayes estimates...
متن کاملParametric Bootstrap Procedures for Small Area Prediction Variance
A parametric bootstrap procedure is proposed for the mean squared error of the predictor based on a unit level model. It is demonstrated that the proposed procedure has smaller bootstrap error than a classical double bootstrap procedure with the same number of samples. Applications to a logit model under different types of auxiliary information are discussed.
